Star Trek Collection Addition 1/8/13: Diamond Select’s Starship Legends Klingon Bird of Prey!

Finally after what feels like forever, Diamond Select has released it’s FIRST new Starship in it’s Starship Legends line! The Klingon Bird of Prey warps into the collection here from BBTS! I am Surprised and Pleased beyond any of my previous expectations with the Bird of Prey! This should sell pretty well once it gets to the stores.

Really big package, was just shocked at the size of the package while Package Photos never really prepare you for the thing when it’s in hand…but let’s move onto this Bird of Prey that literally outdoes the old Playmates Star Trek Generations Klingon Bird of Prey in every way! Clearly a Superior representation of the Klingon K’vort Class Bird of Prey!

Huge Package! Better make sure you have plenty of room for this thing.

The Stand I’m pleased with how it looks, the Klingon Empire Logo looks really great and it’s a great stand. Still not too fond of the ball joint top that makes you think you’ll snap it off.

Moving onto the Bird of Prey, This literally is a work of Art, I see no Quality Control problems looking at it and literally marvel at it in terms of the fact it’s THE Klingon Bird of Prey to get if you’re looking to get a Bird of Prey into your collection and has an excellent looking paint job on it…The Lights are great on it as well, love the Feature that you can push the button for a minute and the lights will remain on.

The Lights I really like, I’m glad this has much better lighting than the old Playmates Generations Bird of Prey did. This has a Real model feel to it with the lights on you’d think about the Lighting Kit Additions that would be required to do the same thing with AMT’s Model Kit.

The Sounds I’m not that big on, While Star Trek VI Was a good Choice would have loved to see this thing have assortment of Sounds from Star Trek II,Star Trek III,and Star Trek IV..possibly Star Trek V as well. Still, all around the Bird of Prey is an INCREDIBLE piece of work and was Well worth the waiting! For the Price of $54.99 it’s worth picking up, and I can assume that this will sell very well and if it does according to Diamond Select this could mean more ships coming out in the future!

Diamond Select has been incredible with their Starships, I’ve been continually pleased with Diamond Select and look forward with great expectations for the Enterprise B and can hope that they’ll eventually finish the Enterprise Lineage with the NCC-1701-C sometime in the near future…but for now the Klingon Bird of Prey is an excellent addition to this collection and will make an Excellent Addition to any Star Trek Fan’s Collection!

That’s it for the Bird of Prey! Moving onto the Medical Tricorder soon!

-Addition,the Lights on this thing are BRIGHT! You can light up a dark room with them!-

Comparison Views, I must say this ship will look perfect next to any of the previous Art Asylum and DST Ships.

Out of Diamond Select’s latest releases I’d Rank this one at #1, Knight Rider’s KITT’s a Great Vehicle so he’s #2 on the List the Tricorder being what it is a Prop Replica that’s more or less a nice display piece is #3 in terms of favorites out of the latest Diamond Select Releases.

So Diamond Select's Latest Releases here that I've added into the collection.

KITT Looks nice next to the Bird of Prey as well, so might have to fit the Back to the Future Deloreans and see how it looks with three vehicles around it. In Closing while the sounds were a let down to me since Would loved to have heard some Kirk Lines from the earlier Star Trek Films or even Commander Kruge’s voice but considering it’s the first Non Federation ship released it’s well worth picking up.

  1. Wow, it’s so pretty. Surprised you didn’t take any shots with the wings in landing or attack mode. Kinda disappointed about the sounds myself, but Chang’s bird-of-prey was the most well known.

I’m guessing there was no alternate part for the underside? It seemed that originally the bird of prey’s underside was going to be swappable with a part that had landing gear. Must’ve been too fragile for the weight of the ship.

  2. No Alternate Part for the Underside since I didn’t see anything in the box except for the Stand.

I didn’t get to the Attack Mode at the time of the Photos so I’ll update the entry soon.

  3. That’s a shame, that was a feature I really hoped to see.

Also, after a closer listen on YouTube, technically only Chang and the torpedo sound are from 6. The cloaking sound and the disruptors are from Star Trek III when Kruge’s ship decloaked to blow that freighter to bits. Gotta say, I love the quality of the sound from what I’m hearing, a definite improvement over both the 1701-E and the Wrath of Khan 1701. And the lights look a lot brighter than most of the lights of the WOK Enterprise.

  4. The Lights are bright for sure, my mother was asking what I was doing the other night when I had gotten this in when most of the lights were off and literally she was surprised at how bright the lights were. Essentially is a pretty cool looking flash light too.

-I think I’ve found my Emergency Light if I can’t find a regular flash light next time the power goes out, lighting things up trek style lol-

Course the Decloaking sound Reminds me of Star Trek IV where the ship Decloaks over the Whaler rather than Star Trek III.

  5. Nice to see some hands on pics of this thing! I ordered one from BBTS as well though it’s still sitting in my pile of loot waiting for shipment. I also ordered a bunch of the Art Asylum Enterprise re-releases.

Now that I’ve seen your pics on how this BoP turned out, I feel like picking up another one to display at the office. LOL

  6. This one is a really good one for sure, You’d regret not picking it up if you’re a Star Trek Fan for sure.

DST Did a great job, my only minus being the sounds but other than that the appearance of it just is Superior to anything else I’ve seen[Except for what you'd see professional modelers doing]

Good thing I’ve got a Canon Powershot Pro 1 to take these shots with, So having a great camera to make some of these shots come out like they did I’m really glad that they came out great.

    Still…This thing’s well worth getting!

  7. Oh my, what a great collection you have! I orderd this Bird of Prey today as well as Kirk’s original Enterprise from the series (haven’t seen that one yet in your collection?) I’m really excited and looking forward to them! Next one on the list will be the Enterprise-D.
